New Year's Resolution - Better Skin

It's that time of year. Almost time for New Year!!! Are you like me, a year older, making a resolution to take care of yourself better? From getting into shape to eating healthier- but have you thought about your skin?

Our skin quality- it really comes down to nurture and nature. Your genetics will play a significant part on how your skin looks and ages, but taking care of your skin is the more important half. It is what is within your control that matters. What you do or not do can age you dramatically. My skin is not perfect and I do not expect it to become perfect, but I still desire to keep it in the best condition it can be over the long term. So how can we make a difference to our skin for the best?

The main key is PREVENTION. Trying to treat wrinkles, or acne scars, or other skin problems is so much more expensive and time consuming after the damage is done, also in most cases it's irreversible! Applying sunscreen, washing your face, and moisturizing all become simple and habitual with practice.

The following are not steps, just 3 simple values to remember on your path to the best skin ever in 2013

1. Know yourself.
When it comes to skin, we may all share some similarities, but we are definitely not all created equal. There are different skin types, and to better treat your skin, you have to know what your skin type is. What works for me may not work for you, and vice verse, so keep on learning!

2. Love yourself.
Let's stop being so critical of our own skin. SERIOUSLY, stop using that magnifying mirror to scrutinize your pores and fine lines! (LOL I'm guilty too...). Stop freaking out about that one pimple or your age! The more we do this the more we will attempt useless measures that only end up abusing our skin. Let's be gentle to our skin. Let's maintain it with simple, healthy habits.

3. Be yourself.
It's all too common to fall into the trap of trying to adhere to cultural standards of beauty or status. We can all think of examples, from tanning extremes, to skin whitening products. These measures present health hazards, such as cancer, and cause irreparable damage, such as thinning of the skin. Do not go to extremes just to please others. Stay true to yourself and your skin will appreciate it.

Look forward to some skin posts in very near future!
xoxo
